Annual Congregational Meeting

St. Mark's Annual congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, January 28 at 12:30 pm in Faith Worship Center. We will elect new council members and take care of other business. This is a great opportunity to hear the state of the church and vision for the upcoming year. All are encouraged to attend. A luncheon will be served in The Crossings immediately following the Impact service. Childcare will be available with reservation.

Mission of Hope Meal

Our next serving opportunity at Mission of Hope will be Friday, January 19. If you are able to donate food, or help prepare or serve the meal, please click here to sign up. Thank you!

Work Life Class

The ACTION Team is looking for Allies (mentors) for the upcoming Work Life class. What is Work Life? Work Life is a biblically integrated job and life-skills curriculum designed specifically for low-income adults. Through Work Life, churches and non-profits can assist the materially poor in developing crucial skills for flourishing in their careers and communities.

Mission of Hope is hosting an Ally training session on Wednesday, January 24th, from 6-8pm. For more information please contact Jon Doerrfeld at jon.doerrfeld@gmail.com or stop by The Crossings on Sunday morning.

Soup-er Saturday Food Collection

Help make it a Soup-er Saturday for area food banks! On Saturday, February 3, St. Mark's will be collecting food at local Fareway stores. Donated food will help fill area food banks; the need is great this time of year. Click here to sign up for a one hour shift!

Night to Shine

Are you outgoing and social? Or maybe have a special way of connecting with others and making them smile? Then consider volunteering to be a "Buddy" at Night to Shine! St Mark’s is the official host church for the 2018 Night to Shine in Cedar Rapids on Friday evening, February 9, 2018 at Ashton Hill Farms and we need YOU!
A "Buddy" volunteer is someone who will accompany and assist their assigned guest throughout the evening. Sit with their guest during dinner and engage with them in conversation. Volunteer buddies must be at least 16 yrs old.

If you would like to be a part of this beautiful event sign up online here. If you have questions, you can contact Nicole Studt at ndstudt@gmail.com.

St. Mark's Winter Blood Drive is February 23!

Our Winter Blood Drive is just one month away and we are setting high goals! Take a look at our past drives:

          *2016 total - 96 units = 384 lives saved!

          *2017 total - 111 units = 444 lives saved!

Another 15% increase for 2018, equals 512 lives saved! This means we need just 43 donors at each blood drive! If we can package 500K meals in a day, we can do this! Click here to sign up!

images/logos/50.jpgEight Days of Hope XIV and XV

Eight Days of Hope (8DOH) is organizing and mobilizing for an all out effort in Houston, Texas after the disastrous flooding from hurricane Harvey. This hurricane dumped 50+" of rain on the Houston area damaging 350,000 homes and causing $160B damage! For perspective, the 2008 flood in Cedar Rapids caused about $5B in damage! The 8DOH Rapid Response team was in Houston for 6 weeks last fall providing immediate response and preparing homes for rebuilding.

St Mark's has actively supported 8 Days of Hope with volunteers and financial support. It is a rewarding experience that will change you forever! Several people have already stepped forward, to spend a week or so in Houston in March. Planning is just beginning to take place and travel arrangements are being discussed.

There are two full weeks of rebuilding efforts planned for 4000 volunteers during 2 periods:

  • 8DOH XIV March 10-17
  • 8DOH XV March 17-24

Lodging and meals are all provided, all that is needed is a helping heart and transportation to Houston. Volunteers of all ages are requested (under 18 with an adult) and a minimum of 3 or more days volunteering is needed.

Please consider joining us, or if not able to participate this trip, please consider making a donation. This is a volunteer organization with only 2 staff positions! Finally, please pray for the people affected and all those able to provide assistance. If you have questions about the trip, please contact Tom Brennom at tbrennom@gmail.com.
