In Our City
The ACTION Team (Applying Christ's Teachings In Our Neighborhoods) began developing in April 2013 when a small group of partners met and shared a desire to go do something outside of St. Mark’s walls; a desire to share the love of Jesus with our community; a desire to make service more than just an event but a way of life; a desire to make an eternal difference! The ACTION Team aims to combine service as described in Matthew 25 with evangelism, that is, sharing the good news and love of Jesus with others.
The ACTION Team encourages you to get into ACTION individually or with a small group by seeking a volunteer opportunity with our local partners. Click here for more information on Relevant Life Ministries and Mission of Hope.
ARC Family Fun Night
Each June, St. Mark’s has a social event to show love and support for people with developmental and learning disabilities and their families, who are a part of the Arc of East Central Iowa. We have a great evening of dancing, singing, games, crafts, ice cream and sharing the love of Jesus.
CROP Hunger Walk
Every October, neighbors and churches in the local area walk together to take a stand against world hunger. The walk raises money for three local agencies and Church World Service (CWS). Twenty-five percent is divided among Green Square Meals, Churches of Marion Pantry, and the Linn Community Food Bank, while the remaining 75 percent goes to CWS for its international poverty-focused development work and refugee resettlement.
“Beautiful Day” is a day where our St. Mark’s family has an opportunity to make an impact on the community of Cedar Rapids/ Marion. We do projects such as painting, yard work, cleaning and having a picnic to help make it a “beautiful day” for our ministry partners, Mission of Hope and Relevant Life and their communities.
On the Saturday before the Super Bowl, our ACTION Team sponsors a food drive at local Fareway Stores. We hand out fliers and ask shoppers for canned goods that are then donated to local food pantries such as Mission of Hope, CrossRoads and Linn Community Food Bank.
